REMI L. SPENCER, ESQ.
Remi L. Spencer, Esq. concentrates her practice in the areas of state and federal criminal defense, municipal court, and attorney ethics matters. Remi is considered one of the "Top 100 Trial Lawyers" by the National Trial Lawyers Association in 2014 and 2015. Since 2011, she has consistently been named a "Super Lawyer" a based upon peer review surveys, and has achieved a "Superb" 10.0 rating by Avvo.com. In 2014, the Essex County Bar Association awarded Remi the Criminal Trial Attorney of the year.
Remi's practice is dedicated to defending the accused and protecting their rights. She has vast experience representing individuals, families and businesses in criminal investigations and prosecutions. She also represents clients in the administrative, licensing and regulatory proceedings that are often a consequence of the criminal action. Remi has represented clients in connection with internal and government investigations, as well as mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, health care fraud, money laundering, tax fraud, bribery, public corruption, unlawful possession of drugs, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, murder, attempted murder, sex trafficking and sex assault. Remi also has extensive experience representing individuals charged with DUI/DWI and other serious motor vehicle offenses throughout this state.
Remi has argued matters of first impression before the New Jersey Supreme Court and Appellate Division. Remi has represented individuals in high profile, newsworthy matters and achieved successful results for those clients. Remi is a former Union County Assistant Prosecutor where she focused her practice in the area of Domestic Violence. Remi is the Vice-Chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court Ethics Fee Arbitration Committee, District V-A. She is a board member and trustee of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, and she is an executive board member of the Alumni Council at Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was an adjunct professor instructing law students in appellate practice. Remi is a frequent commentator on cases of national interest. Since 2007, Ms. Spencer has appeared on most local and national cable news networks: CBS, NBC, ABC, FNC, MSNBC, FBN, CNN, CNN Headlines News, Tru TV (formerly Court TV).
Remi received her B.A. degree from Boston College (1998) and her J.D. degree from Seton Hall University School of Law (2002). Remi is admitted to practice in the state of New Jersey, the state of New York, before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. Ms. Spencer is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association and the Union County Bar Association. Ms. Spencer is the former Co-Chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Essex County Bar Association (2010-2012), former Vice-Chair (2008-2010). She was the Young Lawyer's Trustee of the Union County Bar Association (2005-2007), and a Member of the Events Committee (2005-2006).
